HSR Initiates Legal Action Against City Of Long Beach On Behalf Of Family Of Unarmed College Student Shot And Killed By Long Beach Police

HSR Partners Dan Stormer and Joshua Piovia-Scott brought claims today against the City of Long Beach and the Long Beach Police Department on behalf of the family of Feras Morad, the unarmed, injured, college student who was brutally shot by Long Beach Police on May 27, 2015. Despite witness accounts that Mr. Morad was not acting violently or aggressively, police opened fire, killing Mr. Morad. “The facts in this case are simple, straightforward, and obscene, said attorney Dan Stormer, “A young man was found bloodied, confused, and unarmed in daylight hours in a calm and peaceful Long Beach neighborhood…Had the police chosen to de-escalate this situation, a promising young man would be alive today.”

In addition to filing a $28 million dollar claim, HSR and Mr. Morad’s family have also called for changes to the policies, procedures, and practices of the Long Beach Police Department.
