HSR attorneys Dan Stormer and Brian Olney represented parent Kim Meares in her claims against the Rim of the World Unified School District for failure to provide “free and appropriate public education” to her son. The subsequent April 2017 settlement required the District to form a Parent Advisory Board for special needs students beginning in the 2017-18 school year. The Board’s first meeting took place on October 11, 2017. It included parent, teacher and student representatives and provided a forum for hearing grievances and sharing information about parents’ and students’ rights within the District’s programs.
