Announcing New Partners!

Hadsell Stormer & Renick is honored to announce that Cornelia Dai will become a name partner, effective July 15. The new name of the firm is Hadsell Stormer Renick & Dai. In addition, we are proud to announce that Isela Barrios, Valeria De Gonzalez, Nancy Hanna, Brian Olney and Shaleen Shanbhag are becoming Partners of the firm.

Cornelia came to us from USC Law School in 1999. Over the last two decades, she has honed her skills as a fierce litigator and earned a reputation as a true advocate for workers and employees. She has been repeatedly recognized by her peers as one of the leading attorneys in the areas of employment and wage and hour law. Cornelia’s many contributions to the firm include her commitment to training junior attorneys and dedication to the growth of the firm. She has mentored dozens of associates over the years, passing on to them the invaluable legal knowledge she has received from her own mentors. In 2015, she helped to establish the firm’s legal fund office in downtown Los Angeles, which provides legal services to workers who are members of the hospitality union. As a name partner, Cornelia will continue to bring leadership and expertise to the firm’s class actions and individual employment cases.

Isela C. Barrios joined Hadsell Stormer & Renick LLP as an associate in February 2015. She specializes in family-based immigration law and represents members of UNITE HERE Local 11 in securing permanent lawful immigration and citizenship status in the United States. She graduated from Southwestern Law School in May 2009 and has dedicated her legal career to advancing social justice and advocating for underserved communities.

Valeria De Gonzalez graduated from Columbia Law School in 2011. Before joining the firm, she was an Associate at the Law Office of Alma Rosa Nieto, APLC, a boutique immigration law firm. Previously, she was an Associate at Holguin, Garfield, Martinez and Quiñónez, APLC. Valeria’s practice focuses on providing immigration law services to Legal Fund members and their families.

Nancy Hanna is a native of Los Angeles where she graduated from Pomona College before moving to the Bay Area to earn her JD from Stanford Law School in 2011. Since then she has dedicated her career to working in the public interest representing tenants in eviction and affirmative claims, workers in individual and class wage and hour claims, and debtors in bankruptcy, among various other matters.

Brian Olney maintains a diverse litigation practice, with an emphasis in civil rights and employment law. He represents plaintiffs in state court, federal court, and arbitration proceedings, and at all stages of litigation, from pre-litigation negotiations through discovery, trial, and appeal. Mr. Olney previously clerked for Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and Judge Margaret M. Morrow of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Mr. Olney graduated summa cum laude from the University of California, Irvine, and received his B.A. with Departmental Honors from Wesleyan University.

Shaleen Shanbhag joined HSR in 2017. Her successes include obtaining injunctive relief ordering an Idaho prison to provide gender confirmation surgery to a transgender prisoner, a jury verdict in a fatal LAPD shooting case resulting in a $1.95 million settlement, and a $2.9 million settlement after a jury found Monterey County liable for failing to adequately monitor a jail detainee which resulted in his death. Shaleen is a graduate of UC Berkeley and UC Irvine School of Law. After graduation in 2014, she worked at the ACLU of Southern California and clerked for the Honorable John E. Dowdell of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma.
