HSR Attorney Dan Stormer Weighs in on $100 Million Maternity Discrimination Class Action Suit

The Northern California Record interviewed attorney Dan Stormer for the May 30, 2018 article “Law Firm Morrison & Foerster faces maternity discrimination suit filed by California plaintiffs,” a $100 million suit filed by Sanford Heisler Sharp LLP on behalf of three female employees. The suit alleges that female employees, especially those of childbearing age, are being discriminated against with regard to pay, advancement and ‘”access to meaningful work.”‘

Mr. Stormer provided a broader context for the argument, asserting that the challenges women and other minorities face in the workplace are compounded by maternity and parenthood. He explained, ” ‘It would seem very logical…That if women tend to fare poorly (on the partnership track, compared to men) … adding parenthood into the mix, you would fare even more poorly.’ ” He emphasized the importance of gathering specific data to prove gender discrimination.

“‘The case has tremendous merit,’ Stormer said of the case.”
