Allison v. City Of Long Beach
In 1991, name partner Barbara Hadsell brought to trial a case involving sexual harassment and retaliation against two female police officers with the City of Long Beach Police Department. The jury returned a verdict in two days in favor of the plaintiffs for $3.1 million. The judge awarded an additional $800,000 in attorneys’ fees. While the appeal was pending, the parties settled. It was one of the largest verdicts for sexual harassment in the country at the time and set a precedent for decades to come.
The case received national attention and became the basis for a made-for-TV movie called “With Hostile Intent,” starring Melissa Gilbert.
